Health workers in seven FCT public hospitals are now being trained to respond faster during medical emergencies, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration pushes to cut preventable deaths.
The training, a four-day Basic Life Support course certified by the American Heart Association, began at the Conference Hall of Asokoro District Hospital.
It follows the National Council on Health’s approval to roll out the National BLS Programme nationwide.
Staff from Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Gwarinpa, Kuje, Kubwa and Nyanya hospitals are taking part.
For the workers, the goal is hands-on readiness. The FCTA says it is also setting up dedicated Code Blue teams in its facilities so patients who collapse or need urgent care get immediate attention.
Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment, Dolapo Fasawe, said the initiative is about building capacity at the frontline.
“Our goal is to record success stories from ‘no pulse to resuscitation consistently’,” Ms Fasawe said while declaring the training open.
She added that improving emergency response will also “build their confidence and trust in government hospitals to respond swiftly and manage their loved ones.”
The FCTA stated that with trained personnel and Code Blue teams in place, hospitals across the territory will be better positioned to handle cardiac arrests and other critical cases.
