One hundred women in Ogun State have received comprehensive agricultural start-up support from the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) under a renewed initiative to promote women-led agribusiness and strengthen household livelihoods.
The beneficiaries, drawn from Odogbolu Local Government Area, received farmland, agricultural inputs, and technical training on Tuesday during the launch of the third phase of NALDA’s Green Hope Project in Emurin.
According to the agency, the programme is designed to equip women with the resources and skills required to establish commercially viable horticultural farms capable of generating sustainable household income.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NALDA, Engr. Cornelius Adebayo, said the intervention was created to remove the barriers that often prevent smallholder farmers from achieving sustainable profitability.
Explaining the support package, Adebayo said: “Today, we are allocating 1,000 square metres of land to each of the 100 women beneficiaries in this community. The purpose is to ensure that our women are able to support their families financially, contribute to their children’s education, and improve household incomes.”
In addition to farmland, each beneficiary will receive improved seeds, fertilisers, crop protection products, farm tools, and extension services. NALDA also announced plans to provide shared infrastructure, including security posts, sanitary facilities, and cold storage facilities, to minimise post-harvest losses and improve farm productivity.
Adebayo said the initiative is intended to position women as key contributors to household welfare and national economic development.
“Our objective is simple: to remove the barriers that often prevent smallholder farmers from achieving optimum productivity and profitability. When women have access to productive land, quality inputs, knowledge, and institutional support, they become powerful drivers of household welfare, food security, and national economic growth,” he said.
The agency noted that the Ogun rollout forms part of a broader national expansion programme. More than 500 hectares of farmland have already been developed across 38 locations nationwide, with an initial target of empowering 5,000 women.
NALDA added that implementation will continue in phases, creating additional opportunities for women farmers as the Green Hope Project expands across the country.
