Academic activities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have been brought to a standstill following the commencement of an indefinite strike by the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the non-payment of salaries.
The industrial action took effect on Friday, 10 July 2026, according to a notice signed by the chapter’s Chairperson, Comrade Bolu Oshodi.
The union said the decision was based on resolutions adopted during its congress meetings held on 28 April and 18 June 2026.
ASUU-AAUA stated that the strike would remain in force until the university management and the Ondo State Government settle all outstanding salary arrears owed to its members.
“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive, and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the notice stated.
The union explained that its members would not return to classrooms or resume any other academic duties until salaries for May and June 2026 had been paid in full.
Comrade Oshodi also disclosed that previous letters addressed to the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, regarding the salary crisis had yet to receive an official response.
With negotiations still at an impasse and academic staff having withdrawn their services, the indefinite strike is expected to disrupt the university’s academic calendar until the outstanding salary issues are resolved.
