NSCDC Sanctions 66 Personnel, Confirms 17,000 Senior Officers Approved for Promotion

By Samuel Ogunsona

While 66 personnel faced punishment for misconduct, about 17,000 senior officers have been approved for promotion by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The Corps announced the two developments in Abuja, in a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi.

According to the Corps, the Commandant-General, Prof. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, disclosed the disciplinary actions during a press conference.

The 66 affected personnel were sanctioned for offences ranging from misconduct to other disciplinary infractions. The punishments include dismissal, reduction in rank, suspension and warning.

The Corps said the sanctions followed official correspondence from the Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Services Board after its meeting.

It explained that the affected workers had passed through established disciplinary procedures, including proceedings before the Orderly Room and the Senior and Junior Officers’ Disciplinary Committees. At those hearings, the nature and gravity of each offence were examined before appropriate sanctions were recommended.

The recommended measures were later ratified by the Board, a step the Corps said shows its resolve to maintain high standards of discipline and professional conduct among its personnel.

For the sanctioned workers, the outcome means a setback in their careers. Some have lost their jobs, others have lost their ranks, while others have been suspended or warned.

For the promoted workers, the story is different.

Prof. Audi confirmed that the Corps had received the list of about 17,000 senior officers approved for promotion, as earlier announced by the Ministry of Interior and the Board.

He assured that the promotion list would be made public and communicated to the benefiting officers in due course.
