Former Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Prof. Shuaibu AbdulRaheem, has backed the commission’s current chairman, Mrs Hulayat Omidiran, in her efforts to tackle job racketeering, corruption and unfair recruitment practices in Nigeria’s public service.
AbdulRaheem reaffirmed his support on Friday during a courtesy visit to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, where he commended the leadership of the 5th Commission for its determination to protect the integrity of recruitment processes and promote fairness in public institutions.
AbdulRaheem encouraged Omidiran and members of the commission to sustain their efforts towards ensuring fairness, equity and accountability in public service.
He stressed the need to protect the Federal Character Principle and ensure that recruitment opportunities in public institutions are distributed fairly and transparently.
“I commend the 5th Commission, under the leadership of Mrs Hulayat Omidiran, for its determination to confront job racketeering and corruption.
“The commission must remain courageous and committed to its mandate. I encourage the chairman and her team to continue to do more in the interest of fairness, equity and national unity,” he said.
Responding, Omidiran thanked the former chairman for the visit and described his words of encouragement as a boost to the current leadership and staff of the commission.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the 5th Commission to strengthening institutional accountability, tackling job racketeering and promoting transparency in recruitment processes across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
“We are honoured to receive you, Professor. Your visit and words of encouragement reinforce our resolve to remain focused on our statutory responsibilities.
“We will continue to confront job racketeering and corruption while promoting fairness, transparency and accountability in the implementation of the Federal Character Principle,” she said.
Omidiran added that the commission would continue to carry out its statutory responsibilities with fairness, diligence and integrity while ensuring that the Federal Character Principle is upheld in accordance with the law.
She noted that the commission’s efforts are aimed at promoting equitable representation and access to opportunities in the public service while maintaining the importance of merit and due process.
