The Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) has urged its employees to take pension planning seriously as part of efforts to strengthen their financial security and prepare for life after retirement.
The university made the call on Monday at a one-day sensitisation workshop where staff were educated on pension planning, remittances, record-keeping and retirement readiness. The programme, titled “Securing Our Tomorrow Today: Promoting Pension Awareness and Retirement Readiness Among University Staff,” featured presentations by experts from various Pension Fund Administrations (PFAs).
Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor of FUEP, Prof. Noel Wannang, said proper retirement planning could contribute to a more motivated and productive workforce. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Judith Dawulung.
Wannang said the university remained committed to organising more programmes aimed at improving staff welfare, strengthening financial literacy and safeguarding employees’ future.
Speaking at the workshop, the Senior Deputy Registrar, Pension, Mrs Chidubem Onyejeme, urged staff to see pension planning as an ongoing responsibility that would shape their financial future.
Onyejeme stressed that understanding pension processes and maintaining accurate records were essential steps towards achieving financial stability after retirement.
Also speaking, the university’s Bursar, Alhaji Amale Bello, provided updates on pension remittances and assured staff of the safety of their pension funds.
The university’s Registrar, Mr Longtong Yadok, commended the management, pension unit and resource persons for organising what he described as an impactful programme.
Yadok described the workshop as timely, saying it would serve as a good retirement plan for staff.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for pension experts from various PFAs to make presentations and educate employees on key issues relating to pension management and retirement readiness.
