The Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr Olanrewaju Saka, has announced that the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises for civil servants in the state will commence soon, as the government intensifies administrative reforms to improve productivity and service delivery.
Saka made the announcement on Thursday during the ongoing half-year budget performance appraisal of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the Ogun State House of Assembly Complex in Abeokuta. He also highlighted reforms including the development of a digital personnel database, the creation of a new paramedic cadre and the introduction of vehicle tallies at the state secretariat to improve efficiency and security.
Speaking during the appraisal, Saka said the ongoing administrative reforms were being intensified to improve productivity and service delivery across the state.
“I appreciate Gov. Dapo Abiodun for providing an enabling environment for the civil service to succeed,” Saka said.
He also commended the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, for the harmonious synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Highlighting key achievements, Saka disclosed that approval had been granted for the creation of a new paramedic cadre to strengthen emergency health services in the state.
He also said the state had introduced bi-weekly environmental sanitation, supported by appointed ambassadors, to improve public hygiene.
On efforts to improve service efficiency, Saka said a stakeholders’ committee had been inaugurated to develop a digital personnel database for improved staff identification and security.
He added that his office had introduced vehicle tallies at the state secretariat to curb theft.
Saka said regular engagements with MDAs had contributed to improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), adding that the State Internal Revenue Service had recorded an increase in the last three months.
The Ogun State House of Assembly commended Saka for reforms and programmes aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery in the state public service.
The commendation was made during the ongoing half-year budget performance appraisal, where the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation reviewed the performance of the Office of the Head of Service and the bureau under it.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Lamidi Musefiu, gave the commendation while leading other committee members in the review of the Office of the Head of Service and its bureaux.
The lawmakers acknowledged the reforms introduced to reposition the civil service and called for adequate representation of civil servants to further enhance service delivery.
Saka was accompanied by permanent secretaries of bureaux under his office, including Mr Akintomiwa Osibodu of the Bureau of Establishments and Training.
Others were Mr Abdul Azeez Ajidele of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms; Mr Adebowale Oyeneye of the Civil Service Commission; Mr Dipo Ogunfowora of the Bureau of Service Matters; and Mrs Arinola Adetayo, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pension, among others.
