Nigerian workers will observe a nationwide public holiday this Friday in commemoration of International Workers’ Day, the Federal Government has announced.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Mr. Tunji-Ojo praised the nation’s workforce, stating that their commitment remains central to national progress.
He commended Nigerian workers for their diligence and dedication to national development, noting that their contributions are essential to the country’s growth and prosperity.
The minister urged workers to uphold patriotism, productivity, and dedication as key drivers of development.
“These qualities are crucial for sustainable development,” Mr. Tunji-Ojo emphasised.
He added that the government would continue to support policies that safeguard workers’ welfare and security while fostering economic growth.
Mr. Tunji-Ojo also called on workers to use the occasion for sober reflection on the importance of unity and diligence in nation-building.
He congratulated workers across the country on the celebration of a peaceful May 1 Workers’ Day.
