CIPM to Host 3rd International Conference on AI, Ethics, and Workforce Impact

By Mariam Aligbeh

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has announced its third International Academic Conference, set to examine the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) across academia, industry, and government, with a strong emphasis on ethics, innovation, and societal impact.

The institute stated that the conference will convene key stakeholders to explore how AI is reshaping knowledge creation, economic systems, and governance, while underscoring the need to address both its opportunities and ethical implications.

According to CIPM, the conference – titled “Artificial Intelligence in Academia, Industry and Government: Navigating Ethics, Innovation and Impact” – will bring together scholars, policymakers, industry leaders, and human resource professionals. The gathering is expected to generate insights into AI-driven transformation across sectors and its broader societal implications, with outcomes likely to inform responsible innovation and policy direction.

Announcing the conference, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Ahmed Ladan Giobir, said the initiative reflects the institute’s commitment to fostering forward-looking discourse that bridges theory and practice. He noted that AI has evolved beyond theoretical discussions to become a critical driver of transformation across multiple sectors, making it essential for stakeholders to engage with both its opportunities and ethical considerations.

“AI is already influencing how we create knowledge, run businesses, and design public policy,” he said. “This conference will move the conversation from hype to substance, bringing academics, industry leaders, and policymakers into the same room to translate research into real solutions that serve people and protect societal values.”

Giobir added that the conference will extend beyond dialogue to focus on practical strategies for responsible innovation and evidence-based policymaking, particularly as organisations increasingly integrate AI tools into their operations.

CIPM further disclosed that the event will feature interdisciplinary discussions centred on key sub-themes, including AI ethics in practice, human–AI collaboration, and AI-driven sustainability. These sessions will address critical issues such as regulatory frameworks, responsible innovation, and the balance between technological advancement and societal values.

Participants are expected from a broad spectrum of sectors, including academia, human resource management, technology, public service, and entrepreneurship. The institute also noted that students and early-career professionals will have opportunities to engage with experts and gain valuable insights into the evolving relationship between AI and workforce development.

As AI continues to redefine the future of work and organisational practice, CIPM emphasised that the conference’s outcomes could help position Nigeria to harness its full potential while ensuring ethical and inclusive progress. The institute added that the event aims to move beyond theoretical debate to catalyse practical solutions, strategic partnerships, and policy directions that will shape the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence across sectors.
