Bridging Nigeria’s Tech Talent Gap: Aregbe Initiative Equips Youths for Global Digital Economy

By Samuel Ogunsona

A technology empowerment initiative spearheaded by Mr. Idris Aregbe has produced its first cohort of graduates, with 30 young Nigerians completing an intensive digital training programme designed to prepare them for employment in the global digital economy.

The Idris Aregbe Tech Scholarship Programme, delivered in partnership with aiNova Africa, Remostart, and iGadgets, offered practical, hands-on instruction across key technology disciplines.

According to organisers, the initiative aims to equip young people with relevant skills to thrive in a technology-driven labour market while addressing Nigeria’s widening digital skills gap.

A statement issued on Monday noted that the programme provided rigorous, hands-on training across critical technology areas, positioning participants for careers in an increasingly digitalised world of work.

Mr. Damilare Fakorede, Managing Partner at aiNova Africa, said the collaboration reflects a broader commitment to expanding access to emerging technology skills across the continent.

“Supporting this initiative aligns with our commitment to democratising access to digital skills and AI capabilities across Africa,” he said. “The quality of talent we have seen in this cohort reinforces a simple truth: when young people are given the right tools and training, they can compete at a global level.”

To support post-training progression, iGadgets awarded a laptop to the cohort’s top-performing participant at the graduation ceremony. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Okedele Anuoluwapo Tiwalade, emphasised the importance of device access in sustaining learning and career advancement.

“At iGadgets, we believe access to the right devices can accelerate opportunity. Rewarding the most promising student with a laptop is our way of supporting their next phase,” he said.

Programme convener Mr. Idris Aregbe stated that the scholarship forms part of a broader strategy to build capacity among Nigerian youths. He added that, beyond technical skills, the initiative is designed to boost participants’ exposure and confidence within the digital economy.

He noted that the graduation of the inaugural cohort represents a significant milestone, with plans underway to expand the programme to reach more young people in future editions.
