The Anambra State Government has released official documents detailing ₦363.38 million in outstanding salary arrears scheduled for payment in 2026 as part of its response to former Governor Peter Obi’s claim that he left no debts.
The documents were published by Anambra State New Media, a platform linked to the state government, and include a memo dated May 22, 2025, and a terms of settlement between the government and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
The memo showed that the state entered into an agreement to clear salary arrears owed to staff, pensioners and next-of-kin of two defunct agencies, the Anambra State Water Corporation and the Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency.
According to the document, the settlement was structured in tranches, with the second payment pegged at ₦363.38 million for 2026.
“The second payment in the sum of Three Hundred and Sixty-Three Million, Three Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand Naira only (₦363,381,000.00) will be made in 2026,” the document reads.
The state government said the amount is part of arrears it inherited from Obi’s administration and is now being settled under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, with the first tranche already paid under a settlement signed on February 6, 2024.
Obi, who governed Anambra for eight years and left office in 2014, has maintained that he did not leave debts for the state, a position he restated on Thursday during an interview on Arise News.
