The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission has announced the immediate commencement of the 2026 promotion exercise following a directive from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to begin the process ahead of schedule.
The commission said promotions would continue to be determined by merit, competition, and the availability of vacancies.
The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday. He also announced that Wike had approved the promotion of 3,592 civil servants following the successful completion of the 2025 promotion exercise, describing the decision as a demonstration of the FCT Administration’s commitment to staff welfare and career development.
Ezeh advised officers expected to participate in the 2026 promotion exercise to begin preparations early, stressing that promotion within the FCT Civil Service remains merit-based, highly competitive, and subject to available vacancies.
He said Wike’s directive to commence the 2026 exercise immediately reflects the administration’s determination to complement ongoing infrastructure development across the FCT with improved staff welfare and career progression.
According to Ezeh, the initiative will ensure that civil servants also benefit from the achievements recorded under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as it marks its third anniversary.
He added that the approval of promotions for 3,592 civil servants after the 2025 exercise underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to employee welfare in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Ezeh commended Wike for providing the support that enabled the commission to discharge its statutory responsibilities efficiently.
“Recall that from June 8 to July 17, 2026, the FCT witnessed the inauguration and flag-off of more than 30 projects to commemorate the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration. The workers will not be left out in the celebration,” he said.
The commission chairman also praised civil servants for their peaceful and orderly conduct throughout the 2025 promotion exercise and urged officers preparing for the 2026 exercise to maintain the same level of discipline and professionalism.
He further appreciated the leadership of the Joint Union Action Committee for its cooperation and support, noting that it contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the 2025 promotion exercise.
