Thousands of civil servants in Taraba State have received a major boost after Governor Agbu Kefas approved the reinstatement of 3,187 workers previously dismissed during a staff verification exercise aimed at identifying “ghost workers”.
The affected workers, who lost their jobs after being flagged during the audit, will be reabsorbed into the state civil service and issued fresh appointment letters under regular employment terms, according to the state government.
The Head of Service, Dr. Hamidu Kara, described the decision as a significant relief for the affected workers and their families.
He characterised the development as a “Sallah gift from the governor to workers affected by the state’s verification exercise”.
Dr. Kara added that the reinstatement demonstrated Governor Kefas’ commitment to fairness, equity, and the welfare of workers in the state.
In a related development, the governor also approved the recruitment of 1,500 new civil servants. Advertisements for the vacancies will soon be published in national newspapers to attract qualified indigenes from all 16 local government areas of the state.
Government officials said the recruitment exercise is intended to address federal character imbalances and fill manpower gaps arising from previous employment exercises.
For workers and job seekers across the state, the twin decisions represent both the restoration of lost livelihoods and the creation of new employment opportunities.
The Commissioner for Information, Zainab Usman Jalingo, confirmed that the resolutions were reached following a meeting of the State Executive Council.
