The Military Pensions Board (MPB) and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission have discussed the implementation of the new national minimum wage and its implications for the pension structure of retired military personnel during an official visit to the board’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting focused on the implications of the minimum wage implementation for retired servicemen and women, with the MPB reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that pensioners benefited from approved wage and pension adjustments. The board’s Public Relations Officer, Sqn.-Ldr. Aliyu Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the MPB, AVM Mikail Abdulraheem, described the implementation as a priority because of its direct implications for the welfare of retired servicemen and women.
Abdulraheem said the board remained committed to the prompt, transparent and dignified payment of pensions, adding that it would continue to prioritise the welfare of retired members of the Armed Forces.
During the visit, the delegation received briefings on the board’s processes for reviewing pension entitlements, validating records and ensuring that approved adjustments were reflected in pension payments.
The delegation also interacted with management staff and observed the systems established by the board to promote accuracy and timely pension payments.
