The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day for civil servants and other workers ahead of the Local Government Council elections.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
The directive affects employees at the local, state, and federal levels working within the state, as well as staff in banks and other financial institutions.
According to the government, the move is aimed at removing barriers that could prevent eligible citizens from participating in the grassroots election.
“The declaration is intended to provide eligible citizens the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote and contribute to the democratic process at the grassroots level without disruption arising from official duties”, he said.
The state government also wished residents a peaceful and successful Local Government Council election.
