Kaduna Governor Assures Corps Members of Safety, Highlights Free CNG Bus Service

By Mariam Aligbeh

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has assured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security, while encouraging them to use the state’s free CNG-powered buses operating on more than 40 routes.

Sani gave the assurance on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream ‘I’ orientation course at the NYSC temporary orientation camp at Government College, Kaduna. He also urged corps members to contribute to the development of their host communities and called on public and private organisations to support their welfare during their service year.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, the governor said the government would address corps members’ welfare concerns, noting that renovations had been carried out on hostels at the temporary orientation camp.

He said the safety and well-being of corps members remained priorities of his administration and urged them to remain security conscious as they proceeded to their respective Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs).

Sani also advised the corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, identify local needs and undertake Community Development Service (CDS) projects to improve living conditions.

He encouraged them to take advantage of the state government’s CNG-powered buses, which provide free, safe and convenient transportation across more than 40 routes in Kaduna State.

The governor further appealed to public and private organisations to accept corps members posted to them, support their settlement and provide the necessary welfare to make their service year meaningful.

Earlier, the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Abubakar Bawa, commended the corps members for demonstrating discipline, resilience and perseverance, as well as actively participating in camp activities throughout the orientation course.

Bawa urged them to proceed promptly to their respective places of primary assignment after receiving their posting letters and carry out their duties with diligence, selflessness and a commitment to excellence.

He described national service as a noble sacrifice, stressing that hard work, perseverance and dedication were essential to achieving lasting success.

The coordinator also encouraged corps members to maintain contact with their trainers under the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to benefit from post-camp training.

According to him, the programme would equip them with practical skills, promote self-reliance and prepare them to become employers of labour.

Bawa further advised the corps members to respect the cultural values of their host communities, remain security conscious and move in groups to improve their personal safety.

He appreciated the governor for supporting the NYSC scheme, particularly through hostel renovations and the provision of facilities aimed at improving corps members’ comfort.

However, the coordinator appealed to the state government to provide additional support, particularly by improving feeding arrangements during orientation courses and introducing state allowances to enhance corps members’ welfare.

He also commended collaborating agencies, stakeholders and camp officials for their contributions to the successful conduct of the orientation course.
