The Kano State Government has approved the implementation of promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for the January and July 2026 promotion cycles, with ₦235.1 million approved for the exercise

The approval, announced in Kano on Monday by the Director-General on Media and Publicity to Gov. Abba Yusuf, Mr Sanusi Bature, is expected to cover eligible staff across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), following a request from the SUBEB Executive Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir.

Bature said Kabir requested the release of the funds to implement the promotions after the board completed the necessary processes, including staff eligibility verification and salary adjustment calculations.

According to Bature, the affected workers comprise eligible teaching and non-teaching personnel whose promotions for the January and July 2026 cycles had been processed.

Kabir said timely implementation of promotions was important for staff motivation, career development, capacity strengthening and improved service delivery in the basic education sector.

He added that SUBEB is one of the largest public institutions in the state, with approximately 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs.

Kabir also said the present administration inherited outstanding promotion backlogs affecting SUBEB workers, including arrears spanning seven years and another backlog of one-and-a-half years.

“However this administration approved and ensured the implementation of the outstanding promotions,” he said.

According to him, the intervention significantly improved staff morale, restored confidence in the service and demonstrated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of public servants.

Kabir further said the board had completed all necessary arrangements for the January and July 2026 promotions, including staff eligibility verification and salary adjustment computations.
