MEA Energy has unveiled an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at creating 3,000 jobs over the next five years through the development of 250 retail fuel stations across Nigeria, beginning with the launch of its first outlet in Lagos.
The company inaugurated the new filling station on Thursday along Itokin Road in Ikorodu, marking the start of its nationwide retail expansion programme.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Executive Officer of MEA Energy, Chinenye Atanda, described the Ikorodu outlet as a significant milestone that demonstrates the company’s commitment to its growth plans.
“Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria. It is a very dynamic market and the business hub of the nation. Establishing our footprint here is a testament that shows that we are serious about what we are saying. We are showing the work and not just doing the talking,” Atanda said.
According to Atanda, the company’s entry into the retail market extends beyond fuel sales and is intended to foster closer engagement with consumers while creating economic opportunities in underserved communities.
“We are going into retail because we want to be closer to our customers, closer to the end user. We want to hear what they are saying, hear their pain points, and also establish our presence in places that would have ordinarily been ignored,” she said.
Atanda explained that the majority of employment opportunities generated by the expansion would be offered to residents of host communities where the retail stations are located.
“In the places where we establish our retail stations, we employ people from the host communities. MEA has a long-term goal of creating 3,000 jobs in the next five years, and we are doing that mainly through our retail station expansion,” she said.
The company stated that decisions on future station locations would be based on detailed assessments of population size, commercial activity, and long-term growth potential, with Ikorodu emerging as the preferred location for its Lagos debut following that analysis.
MEA Energy also disclosed plans to introduce self-service fuel pumps and digital fuel wallets across its retail network as part of efforts to modernise the customer experience. The company added that it would prioritise accurate fuel dispensing to strengthen consumer confidence.
“Every litre purchased is guaranteed,” Atanda said.
