Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has urged permanent secretaries in the state to justify the government’s investment in their welfare by improving service delivery following an upward review of their salaries.
Buni made the call on Tuesday in Damaturu when representatives of the permanent secretaries paid him a thank-you visit to appreciate the salary review. The governor said the adjustment was intended to improve their welfare and reflect the growing responsibilities of their offices.
“You are the role models of the younger civil servants working under you, you should therefore lead by example,” Buni said.
He added that the permanent secretaries were expected to reciprocate the government’s gesture by giving their best in serving the people of the state.
“It is said to whom much is given, much is equally expected, you should therefore justify this gesture by putting in your best to serve our people better,” the governor said.
Also speaking, the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, said the permanent secretaries had remained on the same salary structure since 2006, adding that efforts to secure a review had been unsuccessful until the present administration.
“Your Excellency, you have made Yobe permanent secretaries role models to their counterparts in other states. Thank you, sir,” Musa said.
He assured the governor that the permanent secretaries would justify the salary review to the fullest of their ability for the benefit of the state and its people.
