The Federal Government says federal civil servants can expect the long-delayed ₦35,000 wage award arrears to be paid before Aug. 15, as final approvals for the payment are being concluded.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting with leaders of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council in Abuja. He said the payment process had reached its final stage and that the release of funds would begin within days.
“We are not in the habit of making promises that cannot be fulfilled. Where there are outstanding issues, we will give realistic timelines and ensure they are implemented,” Oyedele said.
He said the Tinubu administration was prioritising commitments made to workers.
The Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, Mr Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, said Batch 7 arrears that were missed in a previous payment, along with Batch 9, were currently being processed to clear the backlog.
To prevent future delays, the Ministry of Finance said it will strengthen coordination with labour unions and relevant agencies.
Permanent Secretary Raymond Omachi added that dialogue remains key to resolving outstanding entitlements and maintaining industrial peace.
