The Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), Trade Union Side, has assured public servants that their retirement benefits are secure, following concerns over delays in pension remittances by Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs).
The assurance was given on Tuesday in Lagos during a strategic engagement between the JNC leadership and the management of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC).
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the JNC, Mr. Micheal Domingo, said the engagement was convened in response to concerns raised by workers over pension remittance delays. He said the council intervened to safeguard workers’ current service interests and future retirement security.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr. Domingo said the council would henceforth closely monitor pension-related matters in the interest of public servants. He urged workers to remain calm, vigilant, and well-informed, assuring them that the JNC would continue to defend their welfare and retirement benefits.
Mr. Domingo also commended LASPEC for its openness to dialogue and for introducing quarterly stakeholders’ meetings as a platform for addressing pension-related issues.
Responding, the Director-General of LASPEC, Mr. Babalola Obilana, said the Lagos State Government was fully up to date with pension remittances. He explained that earlier delays were caused by temporary administrative and policy adjustments by the National Pension Commission (PenCom), which have since been resolved.
Mr. Obilana further assured that workers retiring at this time, who have completed the required documentation, would receive their retirement benefits promptly. He also advised workers to regularly review their payslips to confirm accurate pension deductions and to report any discrepancies without delay.
