Tinubu Approves 18-Month Tenure Extension for Correctional, Immigration Service Chiefs

By Samuel Ogunsona

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved tenure extensions for the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The extension affects Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Announcing the approval in a statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said President Tinubu approved an 18-month extension for both officers.

Onanuga said, “Following the approval, Nwakuche’s tenure will now end on May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on June 30, 2028.”

According to him, “The approval, which followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, addressed a succession gap in both Services and would allow the board enough time to appoint successors.”

The presidential aide further disclosed that President Tinubu commended the leadership of the two service chiefs.

“President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains,” Onanuga stated.

He recalled that President Tinubu nominated Nwakuche as Controller-General of the Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming the appointment in March 2025.
