Oyo Declares Monday Work-Free for Teachers to Mark 2026 Teachers’ Day

By Deborah Bodunde

The Oyo State Government has declared Monday a work-free day for all teachers in the state to commemorate the 2026 Teachers’ Day.

The declaration was contained in a circular issued on Sunday in Ibadan by Musibau Babatunde, Secretary to the State Government.

Babatunde said the decision reflected the administration’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers.

He described teachers as the backbone of the state’s education system and key drivers of human capital development.

According to him, the work-free day would enable teachers to fully participate in activities organised to celebrate their contributions to education.

“It will also make them reflect on progress within the education sector, and strengthen unity within the teaching community,” he said.

The state government congratulated teachers on the occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning across the state.
