The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has suspended its ongoing strike at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for two weeks following an intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
Oladayo Olabampe, chairman of the union, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Olabampe said the suspension took effect on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, following an appeal by representatives of the ministry to resolve the dispute involving Adeyinka Ishola, director of Pharmaceutical Services at the hospital.
He said the union communicated the decision to the UCH chief medical director in a letter dated September 21 and signed by its executives.
“Due to the intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the national secretariat of this union has approved that the ongoing strike action be suspended for two weeks with effect from Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026.
“The union has directed its members to resume their duties with effect from the same date,” Olabampe said.
The NUAHP chairman said the suspension was temporary and intended to allow further engagement between the union and relevant authorities on the dispute.
He said the union expected the matter to be addressed during the two-week period.
The union had embarked on the industrial action over its demand for the immediate and unconditional implementation of a decision by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare concerning the case involving Ishola.
With the suspension, NUAHP members at UCH are expected to resume their duties from September 22 while discussions on the outstanding issues continue.
