By Samuel Ogunsona

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to promote more than 13,000 civil servants after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, approved the conduct of the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises, in a move aimed at accelerating career progression across the public service.

The exercise will cover officers of the FCTA and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) across approximately 150 cadres and grade levels.

According to the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, the 2025 promotion exercise commenced on 1 July 2026, with all necessary arrangements put in place to ensure a transparent and efficient process.

“The promotion exercise for the 2025 promotion year will begin on July 1, 2026, with all necessary arrangements in place to ensure a smooth and transparent process,” Ezeh said.

He added that Wike had also directed the commission to conclude the 2026 promotion exercise before the end of the year to ensure that no eligible officer is denied career advancement.

“The minister also directed the commission to conduct the 2026 promotion exercise before the end of this year to ensure that no eligible officer is denied career progression,” he disclosed.

Ezeh explained that the commission would deploy a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the 10-day promotion exercise and appealed to participants to cooperate with officials, expressing confidence that the process would be seamless.

He described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the public service in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The commission also noted that it pioneered the use of Computer-Based Testing for promotion exercises in 2024 to enhance transparency, credibility, and efficiency within the FCT civil service.
