Ondo State to Verify and Re-interview Teachers Affected by Flawed Primary School Recruitment

By Samuel Ogunsona

The Ondo State Government is set to verify and re-interview teachers whose appointments were nullified after irregularities marred the last primary school recruitment exercise.

The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) announced the move following Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s directive to review the cases of genuinely qualified applicants who were affected by the issuance of forged employment letters.

ODSUBEB spokesman, Banjo Egunjobi, said the decision reflected the administration’s commitment to fairness.

Some of the affected teachers had already resumed duties in schools and worked for three months without pay before the irregularities were uncovered. The development led to sanctions against several board officials and the withdrawal of the affected staff.

To address the fallout, the governor approved the absorption of qualified candidates into the public primary school teaching service during this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

“Following the Governor’s directive, a Verification Committee was constituted to conduct a thorough assessment of the credentials and recruitment records of all affected applicants,” he stated.

The committee, chaired by Comrade Bola Taiwo, has finalised modalities for the exercise. The board will conduct verification and interviews across the three senatorial districts, beginning next week.

“The Committee is mandated to identify applicants who genuinely participated in the recruitment process, met the prescribed requirements, and are eligible for consideration under the Governor’s approval,” Egunjobi explained.

ODSUBEB assured applicants that the process would be transparent and merit-based. “The Board remains committed to upholding due process while ensuring that every genuinely qualified applicant receives equal opportunity to benefit from the Governor’s generous intervention,” he said.

Applicants were advised to appear at designated venues with the required documents, as failure to do so may affect their eligibility.
