Relief and Renewed Confidence as Akwa Ibom LG Workers Receive Outstanding

By Samuel Ogunsona

Local government employees in Akwa Ibom State are experiencing renewed motivation following the clearance of outstanding arrears by the administration of Governor UmoEno.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akwa Ibom State chapter, said the payment had eased financial pressures on workers and restored confidence in government at the grassroots level.

The union credited Governor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and the chairmen of the state’s 31 local government councils for working collectively to settle obligations inherited from previous administrations.

According to NULGE, the development represents more than the settlement of outstanding debts, as it demonstrates the government’s recognition of the challenges faced by workers and its commitment to prioritising employee welfare.

The union described the payment as another milestone in efforts to strengthen the local government system and improve service delivery across communities. It also pledged the continued support of workers for the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

“The payment has brought significant relief to local government employees across the state, restored confidence in government, and boosted the morale of workers who had waited patiently for the arrears to be cleared,” the union stated.
