The Nigeria Police Force Pensions Ltd. has launched a WhatsApp Business platform aimed at improving pension administration and making it easier for police personnel and retirees nationwide to access information and support services.
The platform was officially unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday as part of efforts to enhance service delivery through digital technology and reduce the need for physical visits to pension offices.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Acting Managing Director of Nigeria Police Force Pensions Ltd., Muhammad Dutse, said the new platform would provide police personnel and retirees with quick and convenient access to pension information, complaint resolution, and other support services directly from their mobile phones. He said the initiative was designed to address challenges faced by retirees and improve customer satisfaction across the country.
Dutse described the platform as user-friendly and accessible, noting that feedback from early users indicated that it had already simplified access to pension-related information and enabled complaints to be resolved remotely.
According to him, the organisation introduced the platform in response to the growing demand for digital service delivery, particularly as rising transportation costs have made it increasingly difficult for clients to travel to pension offices.
He explained that police personnel and retirees are dispersed across the country, making physical service delivery challenging despite the organisation’s efforts to reach them.
“The platform allows our clients to access information conveniently through their mobile devices at any time,” Dutse said.
The acting managing director disclosed that approximately 30,000 police personnel had already enrolled on the platform before its official launch. He expressed confidence that the figure would rise significantly with support from the media and other stakeholders.
“Our goal is to enrol all police personnel nationwide within the next two to three months,” he said.
Dutse added that the platform would continue to evolve in response to user feedback and changing service requirements.
He explained that users could check their Retirement Savings Account balances, download account statements, monitor fund performance, view daily unit prices, and update personal records in compliance with data protection regulations.
Addressing security concerns, Dutse said the platform is protected by a robust security architecture designed to prevent unauthorised access and cyber threats. He added that sufficient resources had been allocated to ensure uninterrupted operations and timely subscription renewals.
Speaking further, Dutse noted that pension benefits are largely determined by salary levels and contribution rates. He said ongoing pension reforms are intended to improve retirement benefits for police personnel and other public servants.
According to him, a proposal currently before the Federal Government seeks to increase employer pension contributions for police officers from 10 per cent to 20 per cent. He said the measure would strengthen retirement savings and improve pension outcomes in the future.
The acting managing director also announced that alternative service channels, including USSD services and periodic pension statements, would be introduced for personnel who do not use smartphones.
Dutse reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance service delivery, expand accessibility, and improve overall satisfaction among police personnel and retirees across Nigeria.
