Mobility platform inDrive has opened applications for a newly created position, Chief Wahala Officer (CWO), targeting Lagos residents with extensive firsthand experience of navigating the city’s complex transport environment.
The role is designed around lived experience rather than conventional qualifications. According to the company, it is seeking an individual who understands the realities of daily movement in Lagos, including traffic congestion, delayed deliveries, sudden downpours, and constantly changing routes.
The successful candidate will document these challenges, highlight the practical strategies Lagosians employ to cope with them, and serve as a voice for commuters and small businesses affected by transportation disruptions.
To qualify, applicants must have at least five years’ experience navigating Lagos and possess a strong understanding of how people move around the city, alongside the ability to remain composed under pressure.
inDrive said preference would be given to candidates with strong community connections, effective communication skills, and a talent for sharing relatable stories.
Two finalists will be selected. The winner will receive N1 million, while the runner-up will be awarded N500,000.
inDrive Nigeria Country Manager, Oladimeji Timothy, said the initiative extends beyond a publicity campaign, stressing that the company intends to engage directly with users and leverage their experiences to improve urban mobility solutions.
“Lagos is full of energy, but moving around here comes with real challenges. By bringing a Chief Wahala Officer on board, we’re celebrating the people who face those challenges daily and creating space for honest conversations about how the city moves,” Timothy said.
Interested applicants are required to post short, authentic videos on TikTok or Instagram describing their “wahala” experiences, using the hashtag #inDriveCWO and tagging @indrive.ng.
The initiative transforms everyday commuting challenges into a paid opportunity, providing residents with a platform to influence how transportation problems are understood and addressed.
