The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has invited Nigerians to apply for temporary electoral roles ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026.
In a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, the Commission announced that applications are now open for several ad-hoc positions, including Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers, and Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) staff.
Interested candidates are required to submit their applications online via the Commission’s recruitment portal. The application window opened on Saturday, 25 April 2026, and will close on Sunday, 18 May 2026.
INEC outlined specific eligibility criteria for each role. For the position of Supervisory Presiding Officer, applicants must be public or civil servants on Grade Levels 10–14, or Registration Area Officers and INEC staff within the same grade range who are not assigned to other duties.
Applicants for the role of RAC Manager must be heads of schools or staff members (Grade Level 07 and above) of institutions or public facilities designated to host Registration Area Centres.
For Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer positions, candidates must meet one of several criteria. These include being serving corps members, penultimate students of federal or state tertiary institutions with demonstrable IT proficiency, permanent staff of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) holding at least an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or on Grade Levels 07–10, INEC staff on Grade Levels 07 or 08, or former corps members who completed service not earlier than 2023.
RATECH applicants must possess an IT background and be suitable ICT personnel within INEC, either at the state level or headquarters, who are not engaged in other assignments.
The Commission emphasised strict non-partisanship as a fundamental requirement for all applicants. It stated that candidates must not be members of any political party, nor have demonstrated or expressed support for any political party or candidate. Additionally, applicants are required to reside in the state for which they are applying, with the exception of RATECH personnel.
INEC also advised returning applicants to apply under the category that reflects their current status.
