Moniepoint Inc. has opened applications for its 2026 Women in Tech internship programme as part of efforts to narrow the gender gap in Nigeria’s technology sector, the company announced on Tuesday in Lagos. The initiative, now in its sixth year, is designed to provide women nationwide with access to training, mentorship, and potential full-time employment. Applications officially opened on Monday.
Speaking to journalists, the Head of People Operations, Ms. Chinaza Nduka-Dike, said the programme responds to the persistently low representation of women in technology, despite women constituting nearly half of Nigeria’s population. She noted that women account for only 25 per cent of the workforce and approximately 22 per cent of annual STEM graduates, adding that the initiative seeks to bridge this gap by expanding access and opportunity.
Ms. Nduka-Dike said the company has spent the past five years strengthening access and mentorship for women in technology. According to her, the 2026 edition carries the theme, “There Is Space for You,” aimed at encouraging more women to apply despite prevailing challenges in the sector.
“Through the Women in Tech programme, we are not just inspiring inclusion; we are actively creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive in tech,” she said. “There is space for the next generation, and we are ready for them.”
She announced that the programme has been expanded to include roles in high-demand areas, including Cloud Engineering, Data Engineering, Product Management, Mobile Development, Site Reliability, and Information Security.
Ms. Nduka-Dike added that selected participants will receive competitive salaries, work tools, branded merchandise, and mentorship from experienced professionals. She also noted that top-performing interns may be offered full-time roles within the company.
She further observed that several past participants, including Ms. Uzoamaka Anyaegbuna, Ms. Adaeze Ugwumba, Ms. Iyinoluwa Akenroye, Ms. Loveth Abang, and Ms. Bisola Abimbola, have progressed to full-time employment with the company, where they are known internally as “DreamMakers.”
Sharing her experience, a former intern, Ms. Bisola Abimbola, said the programme offered hands-on learning and early responsibility for real projects, which prepared her for leadership roles.
Ms. Nduka-Dike said the launch of the 2026 programme coincides with the close of Women’s Month and reflects the company’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality.
She encouraged interested women across the country to apply, noting that applications are currently open.
