By Mariam Aligbeh

The Lagos State Government has approved a 100 per cent end-of-year bonus for public servants, a move aimed at easing economic pressure and boosting workers’ morale during the festive season.

The approval was announced on Saturday in Lagos by the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), Trade Union Side, which commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the decision and for rewarding outstanding public officers with five new cars.

In a statement, the Chairman of the JNC, Mr. Domingo Adeleke, said the bonus would be paid in two tranches: 50 per cent alongside workers’ December salaries, and the remaining 50 per cent with the January 2026 salaries.

He explained that the payment structure was designed to provide financial relief both during the Christmas period and at the start of the new year, particularly in view of prevailing economic challenges.

Mr. Adeleke also praised the governor for presenting five brand new cars to outstanding public servants, describing the gesture as a significant milestone in promoting workers’ welfare and motivation.

According to him, the awards demonstrate the governor’s commitment to improving productivity and recognising excellence in the public service.

He said the car gifts are intended to encourage merit, innovation, accountability, and improved service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), adding that such incentives help to entrench a culture of excellence within the state’s workforce.

“These interventions go beyond routine administrative decisions and represent morale-boosting measures capable of strengthening industrial harmony, loyalty, and performance,” Mr. Adeleke said.

He added that the development underscores the importance of sustained engagement and social dialogue between the Lagos State Government and organised labour.

The JNC chairman pledged the council’s continued partnership with the Sanwo-Olu administration in supporting policies aimed at improving workers’ welfare and service delivery. He also urged public servants to reciprocate the governor’s gesture with renewed commitment, professionalism, and dedication to serving the people of Lagos State.
