WHC Solar Training Equips Nearly 300 Kano Youths with Skills for Renewable Energy Jobs

By Samuel Ogunsona

The growing demand for solar energy in Nigeria is opening new job opportunities for young people in Kano, with nearly 300 installers now equipped to earn a living in the renewable energy sector.

This was disclosed by WHC Solar, which said its ongoing installer training programme in Kano is designed not only to improve technical standards but to turn skilled youths into employable professionals and business owners.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Clint Chan, said the training was introduced after the firm observed that poor installation practices were costing both customers and installers job opportunities.

According to him, many talented installers were losing customers and referrals due to avoidable technical gaps.

Chan said the company decided to bridge that gap by investing in human capital that can drive the solar value chain.

“Our mission is to ensure that everyone in the world has access to electricity because we recognise that Nigeria still faces significant electricity challenges,” he said.

He noted that the programme goes beyond theory, focusing on practical, income-generating skills that will make participants job-ready.

“At the end of the training, participants will receive certificates as evidence of their participation and the knowledge they have acquired,” he said.

He added that the practical sessions would enable participants to handle equipment and learn appropriate installation procedures.

He explained that certified installers will be better positioned to get jobs with solar companies, secure private contracts, and even start their own installation businesses. With households and businesses increasingly turning to solar as an alternative to the unstable national grid, stakeholders say the training will help reduce unemployment while expanding access to reliable electricity in the state.
