UCH Resident Doctors Resume Duty After Three-Day Warning Strike

By Samuel Ogunsona

Resident doctors at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan have called off their three-day warning strike, with a directive to members to return to work on Thursday morning.

The Association of Resident Doctors, UCH chapter, announced the suspension in an internal memo shared with members on Thursday.

The memo stated that the action was suspended following a resolution reached at its Emergency General Meeting.

“Sequel to the resolutions of the Emergency General Meeting (EGM), held on Thursday, Oct. 8, members are hereby informed that the 3-day warning strike has been completed.

“Consequently, work resumes today, Thursday, Oct. 15, by 8.00 a.m.,” the memo said.

The association urged its members to report to their duty posts immediately, noting that updates on its demands would be communicated in the coming days.

The doctors had withdrawn their services on Monday to protest the prolonged blackout and water scarcity affecting the College of Medicine axis of the hospital.

They are asking the hospital management to restore power supply to the affected areas, fix all faulty circuit breakers to serve as backup, and ensure stable electricity across the entire hospital facility.

The association has also given the UCH management a seven-day ultimatum, between Oct. 12 and Oct. 19, to meet the demands, warning that failure to do so could lead to a total and indefinite shutdown of services.
