The Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed all public workers in the state to stay off duty on Friday, August 14, 2026, as part of final preparations for Saturday’s governorship election
The directive, contained in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, was made public on Wednesday by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the government, the one-day break is to allow civil servants travelling to their constituencies to do so and participate in the election.
“All categories of workers are covered by this circular, except those on essential and emergency duties,” the statement said.
Beyond the logistics, Governor Ademola Adeleke used the opportunity to rally state workers ahead of the election, calling on them to support voter mobilisation across the state.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies,” Adeleke said.
He also framed the election as a referendum on his administration, urging the electorate to protect what he described as three and a half years of progress.
“We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” he said.
“We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” Adeleke added.
The governor commended labour leaders for their support and asked workers, their families and associates to turn out massively on Saturday to “defend their votes and ensure continuity.”
