The Nigerian Army has dismissed a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media and other online platforms, warning job seekers to disregard the fraudulent notice and avoid making payments to individuals claiming they can facilitate enlistment.
The Army said the advertisement, which invites applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC) Course 50/2027, is false, unauthorised, and designed to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, described the advert as fraudulent and cautioned prospective applicants against engaging with the individuals or websites behind the scheme.
Col. Anele reiterated that all Nigerian Army recruitment and commissioning exercises are conducted free of charge, transparently, and strictly on merit.
According to Anele, official recruitment announcements are published only through national newspapers, the Nigerian Army’s verified social media platforms, and other recognised official communication channels.
She stressed that the Army neither sells application forms nor authorises any individual or agent to facilitate recruitment or collect money at any stage of the enlistment process.
“The Nigerian Army recruitment and commissioning processes are free, transparent and strictly merit-based,” she said.
Anele disclosed that security agencies had been mobilised to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for producing and circulating the fake advertisement.
She warned that anyone found using the bogus recruitment exercise to defraud members of the public would face the full weight of the law.
The Army spokesperson urged Nigerians, particularly job seekers, to verify all recruitment information through the Nigerian Army’s official communication channels and report suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest military formation or security agency.
