Healthcare services at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Barnawa, Kaduna, may be disrupted as nurses and midwives have threatened to embark on a three-day warning strike over unresolved labour disputes.
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Federal Health Institutions Sector (NANNM-FHI), conveyed the threat in a letter dated 15 July 2026.
The letter was jointly signed by the National Chairman, MorakinyoRilwan, and the National Secretary, Enya Osinachi.
In the correspondence, the association gave the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare a 15-day ultimatum, running from 15 July to 29 July 2026, to resolve the grievances or face industrial action.
According to the union, the outstanding issues include the suspension of its unit chairman, the demotion of union officials, and the alleged failure of the hospital’s management to implement a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding.
The association further stated that it had lost confidence in the hospital’s current leadership, citing what it described as persistent industrial disharmony.
The ultimatum warned that failure to address the issues within the stipulated period would compel the union to proceed with industrial action.
“Should the issues raised above remain unresolved within the stipulated 15 days, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (FHI Sector) shall be left with no option but to embark on a 3-day warning strike to press home our demands,” the statement read.
Copies of the letter were forwarded to the Minister of Labour and Productivity, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the State Security Service, and the Director of Nursing Services at the Federal Ministry of Health.
