The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspects for allegedly defrauding job seekers during the ongoing Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recruitment exercise in Oyo State.
Speaking while parading the suspects at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Ibadan on Friday, the Oyo State Commandant, Augustine Padonu, said the suspects allegedly collected ₦868,500 from four job seekers after promising to secure employment for them.
He said the arrests followed credible intelligence and rigorous internal screening, reaffirming the command’s commitment to a transparent, credible, and merit-based recruitment process.
Padonu explained that the suspects allegedly conspired to manipulate the recruitment exercise by using the details of a genuine applicant.
According to him, the fraudulent scheme was uncovered through the command’s internal screening procedures.
Preliminary investigations, he said, revealed that four unsuspecting job seekers paid a combined ₦868,500 to the suspects in exchange for false promises of employment.
“I wish to state that the affected applicants are currently being treated as victims while investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the criminal network,” Padonu said.
The commandant added that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
He also assured the public that the Oyo State NSCDC Command remained committed to ensuring that the ongoing recruitment exercise is transparent, credible, and conducted strictly on merit.
Padonu warned applicants and members of the public against dealing with fraudsters or individuals claiming to have the authority to secure employment through unofficial channels.
“All recruitment information should be obtained only through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) official website,” he said.
He further reiterated the command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all those involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.
