The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has warned job seekers to disregard a purported recruitment advertisement circulating online, describing it as fraudulent and unauthorised.
The commission said the fake recruitment notice, which has been shared across several digital platforms, did not originate from NAICOM and forms part of efforts by fraudsters to exploit unsuspecting job seekers.
In a statement made available on Thursday, the insurance regulator cautioned members of the public against submitting personal information or making payments in response to the advertisement.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over employment-related scams targeting Nigerians seeking opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
NAICOM stressed that it had not authorised any recruitment exercise through the platforms referenced in the advertisement or through any unofficial channels.
According to the commission, all legitimate recruitment exercises are conducted in accordance with established public service procedures and communicated through approved channels.
“Our recruitment process remains structured, verified, and strictly bounded by public service guidelines,” the commission stated.
“We are explicitly warning the public that NAICOM does not engage in recruitment through unofficial or unverified online links, and the agency will always publicise legitimate employment opportunities through reputable, authorised traditional media and government channels.”
The commission urged job seekers to exercise caution when responding to employment advertisements, particularly those requesting personal information, application fees, or other forms of payment.
It advised prospective applicants to rely exclusively on official communication channels for information relating to recruitment and regulatory activities.
“We advise everyone to rely solely on the official communication channels of NAICOM, including our verified website and recognised Federal Government platforms, for authentic information on recruitment and other regulatory activities,” the statement added.
“Any portal asking for upfront processing fees or unofficial data submissions is outrightly fraudulent.”
The regulator warned that recruitment scams not only expose job seekers to financial losses but also put their personal information at risk of identity theft and other cybercrimes.
NAICOM further disclosed that it is working with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the fake recruitment exercise.
“The Commission further warns that individuals or groups involved in the dissemination of such fraudulent information are engaging in unlawful activities and may be subject to severe legal consequences,” it said.
“We are working closely with cybercrime units to ensure those exploiting innocent job seekers face the full wrath of the law.”
The commission also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious job advertisements, fraudulent recruitment portals, and extortion attempts carried out in its name.
It urged victims and prospective applicants to channel complaints through its official grievance redress mechanisms and verified contact platforms.
The warning highlights the growing challenge of recruitment fraud in Nigeria, where scammers increasingly target unemployed and underemployed individuals by impersonating government agencies and reputable organisations.
Labour market experts have advised job seekers to verify vacancies through official government websites and authorised communication channels and to avoid any recruitment process that requires payment before employment is secured.
