The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has re-elected its President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, for a second term following the Institute’s 57th Annual General Meeting (AGM), where members reviewed significant achievements in membership growth, digital transformation, and regulatory enforcement.
Announcing the outcome of the election, the Institute disclosed that Gobir secured 2,784 votes to retain his position, while Vice-President Chidinma Justina Obiejesi was re-elected with 1,469 votes.
The election comes amid notable progress in expanding the Institute’s membership base, strengthening professional standards, and enhancing its international profile, further consolidating its position as Nigeria’s statutory regulator of human resource management practice.
Adeyemi Ajayi was also elected National Treasurer after polling 1,785 votes.
Several members of the Governing Council were returned to office, including Sean Olabode Badiru, who secured 2,334 votes; Sa’adatu Asabe Faruk, with 2,279 votes; Michael Ewomazino Ogu, with 1,992 votes; and Osahon Omole, with 1,750 votes. Sabastine Okeke was elected as a new Council Member after polling 1,698 votes.
Presenting his stewardship report, Gobir said the Institute recorded substantial progress in membership growth, digital innovation, regulatory compliance, and international collaboration during the year under review.
According to him, inducted membership rose from about 1,700 in 2023 to more than 3,000 in 2025, while total membership climbed to 27,000.
“The growth reflects our deliberate efforts to strengthen professionalism and expand the Institute’s reach across the country,” Gobir said.
He added that the Institute intensified regulatory enforcement through advocacy campaigns, public awareness initiatives, professional compliance programmes, delisting exercises, and strategic engagement with government institutions.
On digital transformation, Gobir disclosed that the Institute deployed several technology-driven platforms aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing member experience. These include a new examination portal, membership application portal, e-voting platform, upgraded members’ portal, learning and conference portal, Human Resource Practitioners Licence portal, the CIPM mobile application, and the integration of its Body of Competence and Knowledge framework.
Beyond Nigeria, Gobir said the Institute strengthened its global footprint through partnerships with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Chartered Professionals in Human Resources, the African Human Resources Confederation, and the World Federation of People Management Associations.
According to him, the partnerships have expanded opportunities for members while enhancing the Institute’s international reputation.
“When future generations look back at this period in our history, they will see an institute that chose progress over complacency, innovation over tradition, growth over stagnation, and courage over comfort,” he said.
Members who spoke at the AGM commended the leadership team and Governing Council for what they described as a successful year marked by institutional growth, increased visibility, and stronger stakeholder engagement.
Several members also praised the Institute’s growing media presence, noting that it has reinforced CIPM’s position as the statutory regulator of human resource management practice and encouraged more practitioners to obtain professional certification.
They further applauded the Institute’s mutual recognition agreements with Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Canada and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the United Kingdom, describing the partnerships as beneficial to Nigerian HR professionals seeking international career opportunities.
The AGM ended with renewed confidence in the Institute’s strategic direction, as members expressed support for efforts aimed at deepening professionalism, strengthening regulatory compliance, advancing digital innovation, and positioning Nigerian HR practice on the global stage.
