Dangote Cement Plc has launched a multi-million-naira empowerment initiative targeting farmers, women, and youths across six host communities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
The programme is expected to benefit residents of Tse-Kucha, Quarry, Amua, Mbazembe, Mbatur, and Pass Brothers through direct support aimed at boosting livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and vocational development.
Under the initiative, 150 women will receive cash grants to support their businesses, while 52 farmers will be provided with agricultural inputs. In addition, 30 youths will undergo vocational training designed to improve employability and encourage self-reliance.
Speaking at the launch, Dele Alake said the Federal Government recognises and appreciates the social and economic contributions of Dangote Cement Plc in Benue State and across the country.
Alake noted that the company’s community-centred interventions complement government efforts to drive inclusive economic growth, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable livelihoods within mining and industrial host communities.
He urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the agricultural inputs, business grants, and vocational training opportunities, stressing that the support should serve as a foundation for long-term economic empowerment and financial independence.
The Head of Social Performance, Pan-African Operations, Wakeel Olayiwola, said the interventions were jointly developed with government representatives and host communities under the framework of the Community Development Agreement (CDA).
Plant Director Abhijit Dutta explained that the initiative forms part of a five-year CDA programme commencing in 2025 and aimed at promoting self-reliance, poverty reduction, and sustainable economic opportunities across the six communities. He added that a scholarship scheme for students from the host communities would soon be introduced.
“Our host communities are not just neighbours; they are valued partners in progress,” Dutta said.
The company stated that more than 230 people benefited from similar interventions last year and affirmed its commitment to sustaining the empowerment programme throughout the duration of the current CDA cycle.
