21,452 Applicants Vie for 1,000 Rural Teaching Roles in Nasarawa

No fewer than 21,452 applicants certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) have applied for 1,000 rural teaching positions advertised by the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), underscoring both the intense demand for teaching roles and the state’s commitment to strengthening education in underserved communities.

The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Kassim Mohammed-Kassim, disclosed this on Friday in Lafia during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He explained that the recruitment exercise, which commenced on 27 March, was extended from its original deadline of 3 April to 10 April to accommodate more qualified candidates following complaints about limited access to the application portal.

Mohammed-Kassim noted that the extension became necessary after numerous applicants reported difficulties completing their submissions within the initial timeframe, citing short notice and technical challenges.

“The extension became necessary due to the inability of some qualified applicants to apply. We received numerous complaints regarding applicants’ inability to access and complete their applications due to the short notice on the portal,” he said.

He urged all eligible candidates to take advantage of the extended deadline, assuring that only the most qualified applicants would be shortlisted.

The chairman emphasised that the recruitment exercise is strictly for rural teaching roles, adding that successful candidates would be deployed to schools in rural communities across the state.

He advised applicants unwilling to work in such locations to reconsider their participation, stressing that postings would be limited to rural areas.

Mohammed-Kassim further assured that the recruitment process would be transparent and merit-based, with equal opportunity afforded to all qualified candidates, regardless of background or connections.
