By Mariam Aligbeh

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has initiated moves to strengthen collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to enhance youth development and employability across the country.

The initiative was discussed in Abuja during a courtesy visit by a CIPM delegation, led by its Registrar/Chief Executive, Ms. Oluwatoyin Naiwo, FCIPM, Chartered FCIPD, to the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Oluseyi Nafiu.

Both organisations stated that the visit centred on exploring strategic partnership opportunities to equip Nigerian youths, particularly corps members, with workplace skills, professional standards, and leadership capacity required to succeed in today’s labour market. The proposed collaboration is also expected to support sustainable human capital development nationwide.

Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Naiwo reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to national development through effective people management, capacity building, and skills development. She noted that closer collaboration with the NYSC would provide a vital platform to prepare young Nigerians for the workplace.

According to her, the partnership would enable corps members to acquire relevant competencies, workplace readiness skills, and professional ethics essential for long-term career growth and global competitiveness.

In his response, Brig.-Gen. Nafiu welcomed the CIPM delegation and expressed the NYSC’s readiness to collaborate in ways that would benefit corps members and the country. He said the scheme is prepared to work with the institute to design programmes aimed at improving the employability, productivity, and leadership capabilities of young graduates.

He added that the NYSC remains committed to initiatives that promote youth empowerment and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Both organisations agreed on the need to develop sustainable initiatives aligned with national priorities, promote professionalism, and create expanded opportunities for young Nigerians to thrive in an increasingly dynamic and competitive global environment.
