Lagos Trains Over 200 HR Officers, Urges Adaptation and Strategic Leadership

By Mariam Aligbeh

Administrative and human resource officers in the Lagos State Public Service have been urged to embrace continuous learning and strengthen their strategic capabilities to address emerging workplace challenges.

The call was made on Monday in Lagos during a two-day capacity-building programme organised by the Ministry of Establishments and Training. More than 200 officers from various cadres participated in the programme.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, said the training was designed to help officers adapt to rapid changes within the public sector, enhance performance, and improve service delivery. She noted that the initiative was necessary to equip workers to respond effectively to evolving demands in government service.

In her address, Mrs. Abidakun emphasised that learning agility had become essential for human resource professionals in today’s dynamic work environment. She said officers must be prepared to think strategically, adjust swiftly to change, and take proactive steps to resolve workplace challenges.

“Learning agility is no longer optional for HR professionals. The public sector is changing rapidly, and officers must be prepared to adapt, think strategically, and respond proactively to emerging challenges,” she said.

She explained that the programme, themed ‘Cultivating Learning Agility in HR Professionals for Public Service’, was structured to equip participants with practical tools, relevant knowledge, and essential resources to improve efficiency across ministries, departments, and agencies.

According to her, the success of any government institution depends largely on the strength of its human resource management system. “This makes it essential for HR practitioners to remain solution-oriented and forward-thinking,” Abidakun added.

She urged participants to approach the sessions with open minds and to take full advantage of the opportunity to refresh and update their professional skills. Abidakun also described the training as an investment in the professional growth of officers and the long-term development of the state’s public service.
