The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said it is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise, warning Nigerians to be wary of fraudsters posing as agents of the authority.
In a statement issued on Monday, Mr. George Ene-Ita, Director of the Public Affairs Department, said the authority was not undertaking any form of employment into its services at any level.
According to the statement, purported recruitment messages circulating in some quarters are likely the handiwork of fake recruitment syndicates seeking to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
“The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) is compelled to publish this disclaimer alerting the public to the activities of some unscrupulous persons who are exploiting young, economically vulnerable and unsuspecting Nigerians, perhaps into parting with huge sums of money for purported employment opportunities into the Authority,” the statement said.
The authority said the perpetrators typically issue bogus letters of employment, make empty promises, and advertise non-existent job opportunities in the name of the agency.
“We wish to use this opportunity to state categorically that the NMDPRA is NOT conducting any recruitment exercise currently. Neither is the Authority undertaking any kind of employment into its services at any level,” it added.
The NMDPRA further stated that any future recruitment exercise would be conducted strictly in accordance with extant rules guiding employment in the Nigerian public service.
“For the avoidance of doubt, any future recruitment exercise would be undertaken in accordance with extant rules guiding such exercises in the Nigerian Public Service,” the statement said.
The authority urged Nigerians to disregard what it described as spurious claims by individuals whose sole aim is to defraud the public and tarnish the image of the agency. It advised members of the public to rely only on its official website and verified social media platforms for authentic and up-to-date information on its activities.
