The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to strengthen healthcare delivery in the territory by directing the recruitment of additional health workers and the upgrade of 14 health centres across the FCT.

The initiative, he said, forms part of the FCT Administration’s broader efforts to improve healthcare services and ensure residents have access to quality medical care.

Mr. Wike made the announcement on Thursday during the handover of 12 newly acquired ambulances to hospitals across the FCT. The intervention is aimed at enhancing emergency response services within the territory’s healthcare system.

Emphasising the need for a well-equipped and functional health sector, the minister explained the link between infrastructure development and effective emergency care.

“Many people ask why we focus so much on road infrastructure and education. What they often forget is that emergency ambulances cannot function effectively without good roads. When patients place distress calls and the roads are bad, the entire purpose of emergency services is defeated,” he said.

The FCT Administration has also commenced procurement of equipment to rehabilitate and furnish the 14 health centres earmarked for upgrading.

In addition, the FCT Head of the Civil Service and other relevant authorities have been directed to recruit more healthcare personnel to boost service delivery across the sector.

Mr. Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration would continue to take deliberate steps to improve access to quality healthcare services in the territory.

“For us, we will do everything possible to ensure that our people receive the best services,” he added.
