The Ogun State Government, in partnership with the World Bank, has invested more than ₦5 billion in a joint women’s empowerment programme aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting financial inclusion across the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed that the initiative, implemented through the Nigeria for Women Project and the state-owned Oko’Owo Dapo scheme, has significantly transformed the socio-economic lives of women beneficiaries.

According to the governor, the programme has deepened financial inclusion, strengthened social cohesion, and equipped women with leadership, financial management, and basic accounting skills.

“About ₦3 billion was disbursed under the World Bank-supported initiative, while the Ogun State Government complemented it with another ₦2 billion. In total, roughly ₦5 billion has been invested in this impactful livelihood programme,” Gov. Abiodun said.

A breakdown of the funding shows that ₦3 billion was provided by the World Bank, while the Ogun State Government contributed ₦2 billion.

The HR Anchor learnt that the initiative targets about 55,000 women across Ogun State, providing them with practical skills and financial resources to improve their livelihoods and economic resilience.

The Nigeria for Women Project is designed to promote women’s economic empowerment through structured support systems, including training in financial literacy, business development, and entrepreneurship.

The success of the programme led to the establishment of Oko’Owo Dapo, a domesticated empowerment scheme created by the Ogun State Government to sustain and expand the gains achieved under the World Bank-supported initiative.
