Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the promotion and conversion of 2,114 civil servants who participated in the November/December 2025 exercise, in a move aimed at improving workers’ welfare and performance. The approval, announced on Tuesday in Enugu by the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Robison Odo, takes immediate effect and includes full financial benefits, ensuring that affected workers begin receiving their new salaries without delay.
The decision covers officers from Grade Levels 01 to 17 who passed the promotion interviews and is expected to boost morale across the public service while strengthening productivity. Speaking to journalists, Mr. Odo said the development demonstrates the government’s commitment to rewarding diligence and sustaining an efficient civil service.
Describing the approval as timely and encouraging, Mr. Odo noted that it comes close to Easter. “This is like an Easter gift for workers,” he said, adding that the commission would move swiftly to implement the governor’s directive.
He explained that the exercise spanned various cadres within the civil service and assured that all successful candidates would benefit promptly. Mr. Odo also commended the administration for prioritising workers’ welfare, noting that the regular payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities had become standard practice under the current government.
According to him, the state’s N80,000 minimum wage, which exceeds the national benchmark, further reflects the governor’s commitment to improving workers’ living conditions. He pledged that the civil service would continue to uphold discipline, innovation, and productivity in line with the administration’s development goals.
Also speaking, the Head of Service, Dr. Godwin Anigbo, said the governor’s policies had created a supportive environment for workers to embrace reforms and deliver improved results. He noted that sustained investments in innovation and training had transformed the public service.
Dr. Anigbo added that capacity-building programmes, particularly in digital skills, were enabling workers to transition from manual processes to technology-driven operations. He also praised the approval for the establishment of a public service training institute, describing it as a significant step towards enhancing service delivery and institutional strengthening.
Despite substantial spending on infrastructure and other major projects, Dr. Anigbo said the administration had continued to prioritise workforce welfare, ensuring that employees remain motivated and productive.
