Targets Grassroots Poverty with Demand-Driven Skills and Enterprise Initiative

By Samuel Ogunsona

A Nigerian non-governmental organisation, New Dawn for Women and Community Intervention Initiative (NEWOMCII), will launch a nationwide empowerment programme for women and youth on April 28, 2026.

The initiative is designed to address grassroots poverty and promote sustainable development across the country.

Founder and Chairman of NEWOMCII, Alhaji Bolaji Raji, said the organisation focuses on creating opportunities for women and young people, particularly at the grassroots level, following months of strategic engagement and ongoing community interventions.

“Today marks a significant moment for us at NEWOMCII. Across our communities, many women and young people possess immense potential that must be harnessed,” he said.

The programme aims to move beyond rhetoric by delivering practical, demand-driven empowerment initiatives centred on agribusiness, arts, and creative enterprises.

“At the heart of our work is the belief that when women are empowered, families thrive and communities progress,” Raji added.

The initiative is expected to extend across all 36 states and 774 local government areas, with a focus on empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups through inclusive and sustainable interventions.

Deputy National Coordinator, Ms. Heather-Ronke Akanni, said the programme would expand economic opportunities in arts and crafts, promote food security through agribusiness, and position women and youth as drivers of economic growth.
