Peterson Urges Youths to Acquire Marketable Skills for Future Opportunities

By Samuel Ogunsona

The Special Adviser to the Delta State Government on Entrepreneurship Development, Donald Peterson, has urged young people to acquire skills aligned with today’s job market to better prepare for the future.

He stressed that Nigerian youths must invest in discipline and skill acquisition to develop themselves and enhance their prospects.

Mr. Peterson made the call during a Youth Empowerment Forum in Asaba, where he underscored the importance of equipping oneself with practical and marketable skills to build a sustainable career.

“The future awaits only those who prepare themselves. You need to equip yourself with the right skills to build a career, and not make excuses for why you cannot achieve your dreams,” he said.

Through his non-governmental organisation, the D-Peterson Foundation, Peterson has implemented several initiatives designed to expand access to higher education, vocational training, digital skills development, and small business grants, with a particular focus on women and young people.

The foundation prioritises long-term impact over short-term relief, concentrating on equipping beneficiaries with the skills and resources needed to promote self-reliance and sustainability.

Mr. Peterson added that complementary initiatives of this nature could play a vital role in addressing Nigeria’s social and economic challenges.

“The organisation was established in response to an urgent need for practical, community-based solutions,” he explained.
